A SQUAD

Aim

Swimmers to make a final at the following National Age Championships

Selection Criteria

Swimmers 13 – 18 years of age that have achieved YPS Bronze standard at any of Area LC Championships, State Age LC Championships or National Age LC Championships

and

Attended the National Age Championships, competing in an individual event.

 

Squad Activities

The squad activities are delivered in partnership with the relevant Area Development Committee, typically involving participation at a Development Day.

 

Development Curriculum

• Stepping up to Finals

• Time Management

• Dealing with pressure

• Motivation/Rewards

• Skills based Pool Sessions (Under water, Turns, Starts and Finishes)

 

B SQUAD

 

Aim

Swimmers to qualify and attend the following National Age Championships

 

Selection Criteria

Swimmers aged 13-18 years that have attended State Age LC Championships

 

Squad Activities

The squad activities are delivered in partnership with the relevant Area Development Committee, involving participation at Development Days (at least two) and an out of Area competition.

 

Development Curriculum

• Swimming Pathway

• Goal Setting

• Nutrition requirements – Growth and Maturation

• Introduction to dealing with pressure

• Rewards/Recognition

• Compete at an out of Area competition (Metropolitan Areas are encouraged to attend Country meets)

• Skills based Pool Sessions (Under water, Turns, Starts and Finishes)

 

*Where possible development activities should include education for parents.

 

C SQUAD

 

Aim

Swimmers to achieve a Top 10 finish at the following State Age Championships

 

Selection Criteria

Swimmers aged 9-12 years that have attended State Age LC Championships

 

Squad Activities

The squad activities are delivered in partnership with the relevant Area Development Committee, involving participation at Development Days (at least two) and an out of Area competition.

 

Development Curriculum

• Swimming Pathway

• Introduction to Goal Setting

• Importance of Stretching (Dynamic vs Static)

• Warm Up and Warm Down procedures

• Swim Meet nutrition

• Introduction to dealing with pressure

• Rewards/Recognition

• Compete at an out of Area competition (Metropolitan Areas are encouraged to attend Country meets)

• Skills based Pool Session (Under water, Turns, Starts and Finishes)

 

*Where possible development activities should include education for parents.

 

D SQUAD

 

Aim

Swimmers to qualify for and attend the following State Age LC Championships

 

Selection Criteria

Swimmers aged 9-16 years that have attended the relevant Area LC Championships

 

Squad Activities

The squad activities are delivered in partnership with the relevant Area Development Committee, typically involving participation at a Development Day(s) and attending the SNSW Development Meet.

 

Development Curriculum

• How to fill out an Entry Card

• Preparing to compete

• What to do at a Swim Meet

• Pool Sessions to focus on fun, skill based activities such as Starts, Turns and Finishes

• Compete at the SNSW Development Meet

 

*Where possible development activities should include education for parents.

NOTES

• In consultation with Swimming New South Wales, Areas have the discretion to apply additional criteria to the selection of Area Development Squads.

• Funding will be allocated to Areas following the successful completion of all required Development Activities for the B, C and D Squads on the following basis for the 2012/13 period:

 

Metropolitan Areas $1000.00 per squad (including ACT)

Country Areas $2000.00 per squad

• Areas will be required to submit a Development Report detailing all Development activities on the Pro Forma provided.

• The completed Development report is required by the 31st of January, 2013 in order to receive the applicable development squad funding.

• Where possible the Areas will deliver development activities from within the designated Development Curriculum.
